The beautiful bridge over the Cacapon River is a great place for an afternoon stroll. The views from the walkway are wonderful and explore the river as it slowly passes underneath.
It is an historic example of a Parker Through Truss bridge, built in 1933 with good old Wheeling Steel. The bridge was recently named in honor of Sgt. Rex Marcel Sherman, a son of Hampshire County, who was killed in Viet Nam while assisting a wounded comrade. It will soon be restored and placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
